This example of 1B Shares will be using Franklin FTSE Japan ETF.

FLJP Portfolio Holdings as of 12/17/2024

  1. Buy 1B (1 Billion) Shares of FLJP @ $29.32 per share.

    Notice that this will make the heaviest holder in the ETF below the Japanese YEN with more then 2 billion shares.

  2. Set an alert for your position when it crosses $29.33.

    You can name it “Moshi Moshi”, a telephone greeting used in Japan.

  3. At the time your holdings will be the heaviest in the ETF. This can cause a change in volume and value for all the holders of the ETF. Many companies like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda and Sony will most likely want to compete. They can either sell or buy more shares of FLJP, leaving a less amount of shares in the ETF.

  4. Sell your 1B shares of FLJP @ $29.34. This can also be closing your position as you would be selling all of your shares opposed to selling a partial amount (partial close).

  5. The call to place limit order is the order sent to the broker and thus will execute in real time for that business day.

ETFs trade like stocks, fluctuate in market value and may trade above or below the ETF’s net asset value. Brokerage commissions and ETF expenses will reduce returns. ETF shares may be bought or sold throughout the day at their market price on the exchange on which they are listed. However, there can be no guarantee that an active trading market for ETF shares will be developed or maintained or that their listing will continue or remain unchanged. While the shares of ETFs are tradable on secondary markets, they may not readily trade in all market conditions and may trade at significant discounts in periods of market stress.

This order would in reality need $29 Billion dollars.

The trade net profit or return on investment (day trade on this ETF) would potentially return with $20 Million dollars.

The trading journal history shows the order times:

  • 11:35AM Call to place market order to Buy 1B units of symbol AMEX:FLJP

  • 12:58PM Order to Sell 1B placed and executed.

The formula for calculating return on investment (ROI) is:

𝑅𝑂𝐼=(𝑛𝑒𝑡𝑏𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑡𝑠/𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡)×100

  • Net benefits: The total benefits minus the total cost, or the incremental financial gain or loss

  • Total cost: The original cost of the investment

The result is usually expressed as a percentage. For example, if a project costs $50,000 and the net benefits are $25,000, the ROI is 50%.

ROI is a useful metric for assessing the profitability of an investment, marketing campaign, or business plan. You can also use an investment calculator to calculate ROI.

In Excel, you can calculate ROI by entering the following formula into a cell:

  • =A2/B2: Where A2 is the cell containing the amount invested, and B2 is the cell containing the amount made from the investment

For shareholders, the ROI of a stock can be calculated using the formula: *ROI = (Net Income + (Current Value, Original Value)) / Original Value, and 100.

Wolfram Alpha Calculators

ROI = [(29B+20M)-(29B)]/29B]×100

ROI = (1.000689655172414)×100

ROI = 100.068965517241379% or

ROI = 100.07%

Potential .07% increase in 83 minutes.
